Frequently Asked Question

It’s normal to have questions before starting a new treatment! At Superior Physical Medicine, we want you to feel confident that regenerative therapy is the right choice for you.

What type of tissues are used?
At Superior Physical Medicine we use platelets Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy injections to accelerate the healing process of injured tendons, nerves, ligaments, muscles and joints. PRP injections contain a concentration of a patient’s own platelets, which means we use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve neuromusculoskeletal problems.

How are PRP injections made?
PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of a patient’s blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into an  injured or diseased body tissue.

How does PRP work?
Once it is injected , it releases growth factors that can stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body can produce. We also sometimes use ultrasound imaging to guide the injection.

What kind of degeneration or injuries can this help with?
Regenerative therapy supports healing in a variety of injuries and conditions. Because the tissues are unspecialized, they have the potential to support most anything your body needs. They can support cartridge, tissue, or even nerves depending on your particular needs. Regenerative therapy works by signaling the inflamed areas of your body for healing. This supports your body in healing these areas, producing functionally specialized cells.

How much does regenerative therapy cost?
One of the most common concerns about regenerative therapy is the cost. Most insurance plans do not cover regenerative therapy at this time, but it is still an affordable procedure. The cost of regenerative therapy is generally less than most copays for major surgical treatment. Regenerative therapy is also a long-term solution, meaning there is usually no need for follow-up treatment or medication.

Because your body needs to regenerate healthy cells after your injection, you shouldn’t expect to notice an immediate improvement. It takes on an average time between 4-6 weeks to feel a difference after the regenerative therapy. While immediate improvements aren’t impossible, it is not expected. Your body needs time to heal long term damage.
The best way to determine if you are a candidate for regenerative therapy is to learn more about the process. Schedule to attend one of our free educational seminars or watch our webinar to learn more about who regenerative therapy can help. In general, regenerative therapy is perfect for patients who don’t have complete degenerative conditions.
